I am going to miss Nicky's sense of humor. I am going to miss Carson's big heart. I am going to miss Riley's ability to help keep me on schedule. I am going to miss Eleona's braveness. I am going to miss Ruby's willingness to let all learning be an ADVENTURE. I am going to miss Fatima's "Power Girl" mode.
Thank you parents for giving me the great joy and privilege of teaching and learning with your children! They are the reason I love a Monday just as much as I love a Friday!
Update: October 1 Observed strength of this class as a whole: Creativity. This is a higher level thinking skill and very valuable in almost all future career paths. Observed weakness of this class as a whole: Very immature "how to be a student" skills. Full student mode looks like this: prepared to work, can take care of personal supplies and items all on their own without reminders, puts forth their best effort every time, welcomes challenge, enjoys learning new things, full participation and attention during instructional times, knows what to do and does it without being told repeatedly.
Third grade has gotten off to a good start. Attitudes are mostly positive. Routines are beginning to work their magic in helping students to settle into the work of learning. They are also growing in their ability to experience a touch of fun and play throughout the day WITHOUT loosing all focus and ability to work. This is so helpful in this classroom because I push them HARD in the area of "work" AND I also sprinkle the day with fun.
Please know that I can tell that parents are really stepping up to the responsibility of Spelling word practice at home. Scores are strong. Because you all are doing this, I have more time to develop their writing skills. As a class, these are a bit weak. I am spending a lot of time with sentence structure and the formulation of complete sentence answers. This is a skill that scores BIG on ISTEP now and throughout their learning career.
Reading, writing and math get the bulk of our energies in order to provide solid skills in ALL areas of their lives.
